Your Home & The Environment
The Greening of America...One House at a Time.
As a Realtor, I see a lot of homes each and every day. Old/new; large/ small; urban/rural. Some are in desperate need of updating or repair. Some have been partially or totally remodeled. Some are sparkling new. Some are sweet and inviting. And some would benefit more from a bulldozer or open flame than from repair. Among this diverse and disparate landscape of housing, there is one commonality... each and every house impacts the environment, the quality of life of its occupants and neighbors, and ultimately our community and the world.
Your House, Your Pocketbook, and the Environment. Now, before you start thinking I'm a crazy tree-hugger or environmental radical... let's take a look at a few facts. Over 60% of the power consumed in California is used to process, purify, deliver, and dispose of water! Sixty percent! So, what would happen if we didn't consume so much water? What if our landscaping was drought tolerant? What if we didn't overwater our lawns or only watered at night when the temperatures were cooler? What if we installed low flow shower heads? What if our parks and our gardens were irrigated with reclaimed water? What if we could capture more of the rain and use it to water our gardens instead of sending it in pipes to the sea? What if each household on our block, on our street, in our neighborhood, in our city each implemented one, two, three or four water saving strategies? What if our houses used less water? And our businesses? Not only would we have more water in our resevoirs but we would save money
